Our Aim

At Motus Learning, we have three main aims:

  • To give future generations the language to understand and manage their mental health.
  • To take the pressure off teachers and provide more employment for psychology graduates.
  • To eliminate the stigma around children talking about their mental health.

Meet the Team

Karena Curtin

BEd

Cork Facilitator

With a degree in Education and Psychology from MIC in Limerick, Karena has experience as a Primary School Teacher and Assistant Psychologist. Karena is also a yoga teacher and is passionate about wellbeing and raising awareness around youth mental health to enable young people to thrive holistically. 

Dr. Christopher Shum

BA, MSc, Phd

Director

Christopher had dedicated his career to mental health education to provide more employment for psychology graduates and take the pressure off teachers, parents, and mental healthcare services. He has completed a PhD in social-emotional learning and has previously worked in multiple school and health service settings .

Sarah McGarry

BSc, MSc

Social Media Manager

Alongside a psychology degree from Ulster University and developmental psychology masters from Queens University, Belfast. Sarah has a strong passion for youth mental health. Sarah has previously facilitated workshops. She is now focused on leading Motus’social media presence and digital content.

Katie Breen

BA, MSc

Dublin Facilitator

With a BA Psychology and Sociology and an MSc Organisational Psychology, Katie has a strong interest in educational psychology and youth mental health. She is also beginning a masters in applied behaviour analysis (ABA) at Trinity College Dublin. Katie is passionate about making well-being education engaging and enjoyable, while helping students build confidence, resilience, and positive mental health skills.

Ava Gillen

BSc

Northern Ireland Facilitator

Ava graduated with a BSc Psychology from the University of Galway and is currently completing an MSc Applied Developmental Psychology at Queen’s University Belfast. She has experience supporting young people in educational, disability support and residential settings. Ava is interested in early intervention and helping young people develop the skills needed to support their mental health and wellbeing.

Sinéad Downey

BA, MA, MSc

Dublin Facilitator

Sinead is a trained primary teacher from the US with a BA Psychology from Trinity, an MSc Children, Education, & Youth from UCD, and an MA Elementary Education from University of the Pacific. She is passionate about youth mental health, social inclusion, and neurodiversity and aspires to become an educational psychologist. Sinead loves helping equip students with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges.

Heather Morrison

BSc, MA

Cork Facilitator

Heather completed her BA Applied Psychology, and MA in Organisational Psychology at University College Cork. She wishes to pursue a career in educational psychology, and has a particular interest in neurodivergence. Heather has thoroughly enjoyed the past year working with Motus.

Business Development

Frustrated by the lack of proactive mental health supports, Eoin joined the Motus team to prevent mental health issues before they happen. With a sales and marketing background, Eoin is looking to implement a business development mindset to Motus.

Chloe Malone

BA, MA

Midwest Facilitator

Chloe completed her BA Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Galway and MA Psychology at the University of Limerick. Chloe aims to be a psychology lecturer and researcher one day and is passionate about teaching the mental health skills necessary to support youth wellbeing.
